The Microtech Cobra was an homage to one of the oldest and simplest Automatic knives in history, The Mikov Predator. Famous for ease of spring replacement and spring swapping using no tools, The Cobra saw many firsts for Microtech including the premier of the Microtech Triangle Hardware. We have become accustomed to these triangles dotting our Microtech's for years now, but in Summer 2011 when production Cobras showed up with these strange and impossible to imagine screw heads it all changed.
The Cobra hailed the entering of the "3rd Era" of Microtech. The triangle fasteners, the numbering system along with the clear and concise Marfione Custom branding would put Microtech on trajectory to regain its rise to the top of the industry. They would continue to innovate and build to be the most interesting and futuristic brands and to compete on a global level.

Editors Note: While customs were always part of Microtech, this era of Cobras also saw a huge upgrade in "Brand Communication" heavier use of the Marfione Dagger logo and and box labeling.

Editors Note: For the first five or so years we called the Medium Triangle bit the "Cobra Bit" as it took a while to see all the variations in sizing along with Male VS Female versions of the faster head. This knife started a fascination with construction of knives till this day, the Cobra was one of the first and still one of the most complicated knives i've disassembled.
The modern Microtech numbering system was another first unveiled with the Cobra knives, this would be another system or trait that would prove beneficial for collectors and dealers. Differentiating the knife based on a simple number set meant easier cataloging and tracking across platforms. Still used till this day the Microtech Numbering system is like a tiny URL, it compresses the Model, Blade Style, Color, Scale, Hardware color into a simple sku number. In the case of the Cobra the Bowie was a 137 and the Dagger was a 136.

Editors Note: This was the era of Lightning Strike CF and the Cobras had a lot of it, the contouring on the handle scales is still impressive by todays standards. Very few companies would attempt that kind of Hourglassing on a production level.
