The Marfione Custom Anax (Named after the emperor Dragonfly) was introduced in 2014 on Microtechs 20 year anniversary. With this model they also unleashed the NEW Marfione Customs packaging (A lot closer to the modern version we know now) with a metal certificate of authenticity and a Marfione Custom zippered pouch with a metal dagger cutout velcroed to the outside, this all sits inside magnetic closure lid box. At the time and still now this is the most extreme stylized and high end packaging we see in the knife industry.
The Anax was the first ever Integral (The handle is one solid piece of material not 2 handle slabs screwed together) from Marfione and Microtech, this model also used the Sub-Frame lock bar mechanism. At that time machining integrals was extremely time consuming and prone to failure, the Sub-Frame lock bar allowed the ease of 2 piece machining with the coolness of the integral and relative lack of hardware on the show side. Another premiere we saw was on this model was the Todd Begg style pressed ball pocket clip adding to the very futuristic design language of the Anax. The hardware was also a slight throwback to the multipoint fasteners of a decade ago instead of using the Triangle fasteners we saw the unveiling of the "6 Shooter" screw heads, these were essentially doubling the classic tri-point hardware they had become known for in earlier years. This model also used a threaded modular lanyard system consisting of a needle style "Stinger" that most of the knives shipped with and the ball "Wrecker" style that was a little more rare, these were made from braided steel cable and would thread into the rear of the knife where the traditional lanyard would sit.

Marfione Custom Anax Titanium Handle with a mirror polished blade

Chassis: 2.5mm Tripoint Flat
Editors Note: The dishes on the pocket clip and spine were very much in reference to the knifes namesake of a dragonfly, these gave the Anax a stylistic lightening aesthetic paired with the elegant contouring on the handle
Marfione Custom Anax Titanium Handle with a San-Mai damascus blade SN001
Pivot: Socom Pivot
Chassis: 2.5mm Tripoint Flat
Editors Note: This is a prime example of mixed material use to truly show off the Sub-Frame Lock, the handle is made from traditional folding knife T6-6061 Aluminum and the Sub-Frame lock is matted to create a super lightweight strong knife. We also saw the use of the 3 point hardware on these Aluminum handle and the loss of the distinct dishing on these variants (total weight on this model was 5oz) making us wonder if they were trying out possible production options all the way back then?

In 2022 Microtech would begin a collaboration project with Rike Knives in China to produce a few of their lineage folding knife models including first up the Anax then the Socom Bravo and eventually the Matrix. This bittersweet collab brought the Anax to the masses now with a traditional fully integral single piece frame and other accents not seen on this model before. The Anax now has carbon Fiber inlays on the show side of the handle along with pivot collars and an overtravel stop on the lock bar, the knife is also now fitted with the traditional Triangle hardware and comes with the needed Microtech Bits in the box along with both types of threaded lanyard.
